Howard has 14 years of experience in commercial real estate, all of which has been focused within the Self Storage Industry. During his time in the business he has pursued and underwritten more than $1.2B in self storage projects. His experience spans the entire United States with experience in operations, asset management, acquisitions, dispositions, and development. Howard started his storage career in 2004 with Extra Space Storage (Nasdaq: EXR), followed by Bradley Construction, and Westport Properties, Inc. This experience allowed him to work within organizations of all sizes from a small family owned company with less than six corporate employees at Bradley Construction to a large publicly traded company with thousands of employees. He went on to become a partner at Westport Properties, a midsized national operator where he was their Director of Acquisitions.
Howard’s leadership contributed to the acquisition of more than 2MM net rentable square feet of storage space in eight states representing more than $210MM in transaction volume. During his tenure in asset management and operational management he was responsible for the asset management of more than 4MM net rentable square feet across the USA and consistently delivered quarterly results that exceeded those same store results being delivered by many/most of the publicly traded REITS.
Howard was elected by his peers to serve as the President of the Florida Self Storage Association and represent more than 1,000 facility owners and their businesses. He served the Florida Self Storage Association for 4 years and is a regular speaker and writer on various storage industry topics at State and National tradeshows and in industry publications.
